You should stretch before AND after a workout for optimal muscle recovery, and to reduce the feelings of soreness.
You should implement dynamic stretches before the start of your workout.
These can include:
- Lunges
- Arm Circles
- High Knees
- Side Lunges
- Leg Swings
Dynamic stretches before can help prepare your muscles and range of motion for the workout you are preparing for.
Implement static stretches after you are done with your workout. These are when you are sitting or standing, while holding a specific stretch for an extended amount of time. (Typically 20-45 seconds)
These can include:
- Toe touch
- Shoulder stretch
- Seated butterfly stretch
- Knee to chest
Static stretches after your workout will loosen up your muscles and help with recovery.
